Blue Ridge Georgia Weekend Guide

Blue Ridge, Georgia is the perfect distance for a getaway from Atlanta for a weekend. Depending on traffic and where you’re located it is about 1 and 1/2 hour or a two hour drive away. This town has a lot of local charm with plenty of mountain views and blue skies.

If you’re looking for a place to stay I recommend checking out the many properties you can find for rental on Airbnb or VRBO. You can customize your search to be anything from a cozy cabin nestled in the mountains to an epic lake front property.

Things to do in Blue Ridge

While you can totally go to Blue Ridge to escape and read books and cuddle by a fireplace, there are also a ton of different activities you can do. First up is to go apple picking (if in season) and check out the bakery and shop at Mercier Orchards. You can sample whatever fresh fruit is in season or u-pick and also buy everything from fruit wines to freshly baked bread. I highly recommend getting some fruit hand pies. They are best if eaten warmed up and with some vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Blue Ridge Wineries

For a more adult activity, you can check out some of the wineries in the area. First up is Living Water Winery and Vineyard. This spot has wonderful views and a variety of drinks whether you like wine or not. I definitely recommend getting wine and if it is a hot day, try out one of their wine slushies.

For a different vibe, you can check out Serenberry Vineyards and Winery. This spot is quite unique from its solar-powered winery to its early 1900s tasting barn. This spot is perfect if you want to bring your own lunch and hang out outside on their patio or surrounding lawn.

For Coffee and breakfast, I recommend Mountain Mama’s Coffee. Be warned this spot does get hopping on a weekend so I would come early if you’re in a crunch for time. They describe themselves as a coffee and brunch bar. This means you can get everything from a peppermint mocha to a “hiker bagel” or “Mama’s Granola.” I had Mama’s Granola which is homemade granola and fruit served over Greek yogurt (coconut yogurt also available). If you have a food allergy this is a great spot since they have a variety of dairy-free and gluten-free options.

Aside from the cute shops along the Main Street area, there are plenty of little food stands. This is where I found some awesome roadside corn.

Things to Explore in Blue Ridge

Aside from the bevy of food options and shopping, there are several outdoor activities to do in Blue Ridge. Perhaps one of the most famous is the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. This railway is extremely popular during the fall season as people look to get the best glimpse of the leaves changing in Georiga.

If the train isn’t your thing I recommend a hike to the Toccoa River. Its swinging bridge and views of the Chattahoochee National Forest are some of my favorites in the area. It is also a dog-friendly and family-friendly hike. The waters in this area are also great for fly fishing as the county Blue Ridge Residens in (Fannin) happens to be known as the trout capital of Georgia.

Lastly, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention hanging out at the Lake. You can do all the usual boat activities or grab a bite at the Boat Dock Bar and Grill. This is just a weekend guide so there are plenty of spots I have missed. If you have a favorite that I need to add to the guide please don’t hesitate to leave a comment.

Happy Adventuring!
